Mentone Texas was named after Menton in France and was founded in 1931.
At its most populous in 1932 it had 600 residents but has declined until only 15 residents now remain .
When it prospered in the 1930’s it had its own newspaper , school ,library and other infrastructure .
During this period it enjoyed fame for employing the first US woman sherifff who reported only 2 arrests during her service .
Today it is known colloquially as a ” ghost town”
